Due to the miniaturization of electronic devices, seeking a high-k nanodielectric material becomes more urgent and important. High-k nanodielectrics have potential to improve the performance of traditional dielectrics in wide applications ranging from capacitors, dielectric resonators to cable insulators and provide key dielectric components in MEMS and NEMS systems and devices which cannot be achieved by the traditional dielectric materials. In this talk, recent investigation on high-k nanodielectric materials will be presented. First, a novel process at low temperature and low cost for nanocrystalline BaTiO3 will be introduced, then a proposed model combines Debye type of dissipation, soft mode theory and the influence of conductivity on the dielectric properties of single domain crystalline BaTiO3 is established to study dielectric frequency spectrum. Combining with various homogenization approaches, the effective dielectric properties of nanodielectric composites are obtained in terms of concentration of the nanodielectrics and frequency. Finally, a new class of complex oxides based nanocrystal films will be introduced. The new materials not only process high dielectric property but also multi-functionality as multiferroics. This complete study through synthesis, characterization and modeling provides fundamental knowledge for designing optimized dielectric systems with better performance for energy storage applications.
个人简介:
Jackie Li is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the City College of New York (CCNY). Her research interests include micromechanics, nano-mechanics, nonlinear and time-dependent mechanical properties of composites, nonlinear electro-mechanical coupling behavior of ferroelectrics, mechanical properties of nanotubes and nanotube-reinforced composites, nanocrystalline materials, and self-sensing of carbon-reinforced composites. She is a recipient of NSF Career award for her research and education on ferroelectric materials. She was also one of invited participants in the National Academy of Engineering’s annual Symposium on Frontiers of Engineering, which brings together outstanding leaders and top-notch people from disparate fields in engineering and challenges them to think about the developments at the frontiers of areas different from their own. Her current research activities are on electric and mechanical behavior of carbon nanotubes and CNT-reinforced composites, electro-mechanical coupling behavior of ferroelectrics and nano-ferroelectrics, and nanodielectric composites for energy storage applications. She has over 20 years research experiences in the fields. Prof. Li received her BS degree in Mechanics from Peking University in 1986 and her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Rutgers University in 1995. Prior to her appointment at CCNY in 2002, she was an Assistant Professor at The Cooper Union for four years.
