报告题目: Probing Mechanical Principles of Cell-nanoparticle Interactions

Nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes, nanowires, nanofibers and graphenes have potential applications for next generation microchips, composites, barrier coatings, biosensors, and drug delivery. There is also an urgent need to understand the hazards of nanoparticles to health. In this talk, we will discuss some recent studies on the mechanics of cell-nanoparticle interactions, including the mechanics of cellular uptake of nanoparticles by receptor-mediated endocytosis and coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations of complete lipid bilayer segments interacting with nanoparticles. The discussions will be organized around the following questions: Why and how does cellular uptake of nanoparticles depend on the particle size, shape, aspect ratio and elasticity? In particular, we will discuss the effect of elastic stiffness on cell-particle interactions [1] and how cylindrical one-dimensional nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes [2] as well as two-dimensional nanomaterials such as graphenes enter cells.

报告人简介
施兴华,1978年2月生,博士,副研究员。2001年毕业于北京大学力学与工程科学系,获学士学位。2004年毕业于中国科学院力学研究所,获硕士学位。2005年1月赴德国马普协会金属所攻读博士学位,后于2006年8月转赴美国布朗大学(Brown University)继续攻读。于2010年8月获布朗大学固体力学博士学位。博士毕业后在该校进行了3个月的博士后工作,于2010年12月加入中国科学院力学所工作。学术研究方向和兴趣包括碳纳米材料的力学行为,微纳米结构的变形机理,纳米颗粒的生物毒理研究等。
